In 1933, a young Mary and her husband, Hans, combined their talents to design, manufacture, and sell tomato and animal pincushions, as well as dolls. Over the years, they expanded into the realm of stuffed toys, moving the company to the picturesque Green Mountains of Vermont in the early 1940s.

Mary's son, Walter, joined the company in the mid-1950s, and her grandson, Kevin, followed suit in 1982, eventually becoming the company's president in 1986. Throughout the ensuing years, three of Kevin's brothers also joined the family business in various capacities, ensuring the continuation of Mary Meyer's legacy.

Mary herself was actively involved in the management of her company until 1982, when she retired at the age of 78. However, her influence and spirit lived on, as she continued to be a part of the company, spending many hours in the factory store, interacting with teddy bear collectors and signing their Mary Meyer collectibles. Sadly, Mary passed away in 1999 at the age of 94, but her legacy as the warm and gracious "Gram" to all who knew her remains an integral part of the company's identity.

Today, the Marshmallow Zoo line carries on Mary's principles, with over 400 different stuffed toy designs that strive for extraordinary quality and customer satisfaction.
