Mary Meyer has a long history of crafting safe and fun toys. The company was founded in 1933, when a young Mary and her husband, Hans, began designing, manufacturing, and selling tomato and animal pin cushions, along with dolls. After several years, they added stuffed toys to their product line. In the early 1940s, the Meyers moved the company to the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont.

In the mid-1950s, Mary's son Walter joined the company, and he continues to be active in its operations. In 1982, Walter's son, Kevin, also joined the company, eventually becoming president in 1986. Over the years, three of Kevin's brothers have also joined the company in various capacities.

Mary Meyer was actively involved in the management of her business until 1982, when she retired at the age of 78. Even after her retirement, she remained involved with the company, spending many hours in the factory store and visiting with teddy bear collectors, signing their Mary Meyer collector bears. Mary passed away in 1999 at the age of 94, but her influence lives on in the company she founded.

Known as "Gram" to family, friends, townspeople, employees, and colleagues worldwide, Mary brought a sense of gentleness and graciousness to the toy industry. Following her principles, Mary Meyer continues to strive for excellence, offering over 400 different stuffed toy designs that are made to strict quality standards and meet or exceed every US toy safety requirement.
